Tell us a bit about
Braddon Tailors and how it all began...
Braddon Tailors is a group of Canberra based designers dedicated to producing high
quality made-to-measure and ready-to-wear garments using refined techniques and
luxury fabrics for men and women.
Established
in 2010, Braddon Tailors eschews the vagaries and fads of fashion to build
timeless, heirloom pieces so our clients can develop a collection of garments
that can be replied upon in any situation.
Specializing
in suits and shirts, Braddon Tailors has now expanded it’s repertoire to
include casual trousers, jeans, shorts, accessories and many other garments to
complete your wardrobe.
Complemented
at Hustle&Scout by the luxury accessories retailer, Henry Carter, our
display will have something for everyone at Hustle&Scout.
What can market
folk expect to find at our November event?
Market
folk will be greeted by a variety of made-to-measure samples from Braddon
Tailors, with both a variety of men’s and women’s wear on display. With an
emphasis of suiting the summary conditions, Braddon Tailors will be displaying
a range of shirts, shorts and cotton trousers and suits made from the cotton
twill and printed canvas offerings of a brilliant Japanese mill.
These
will be complemented by a range of basic suits and shirts for the workplace,
and our hugely successful denim suits and shirts.
In
a special guest for market goers, Henry Carter will be using the market to
display, for the first time in public, their new Spring / Summer range of ties
and accessories.
What has brought
you the most joy from your creative practice?
As
much as we love creating garments for the more adventurous of fashion
followers, Braddon Tailors has received the most joy from helping a countless
number of men and women from Canberra and beyond in clothing which not only
fits them, but is comfortable.
The
joy we get from the broad smile we see on a daily basis from our customers,
when they try on a new suit, shirt or even pair of jeans for the first time is
the biggest reward of our jobs.
Do Braddon Tailors
have any exciting plans for 2015?
Many!
Too Many! Braddon Tailors has a huge number of plans for 2015, some under wraps
and some we’re happy to chat about.
Thanks
to the support we have received from the Canberra community we are now in a
position to move from our current studio rooms into a street front location,
and open our doors full time.
In
turn, this means that we will be able to also offer our first complete range of
ready-to-wear garments for those of our customers who need garments on a more
immediate basis. Made to the same impeccable high standards as our
made-to-measure and hand stitched garments, our ready-to-wear range is being
developed to fit the Australian man with no compromises on style or
construction.
Following
this we are also in the process of:
- Redeveloping our website to offer an online sales portal,
- Broadening our scope of operations to Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle and Wollongong setting up permanent bases in those locations to meet the increasing demand in these locations,
- Preparing our next offerings for Fashfest 2015
- Completing some collaborative deals with local luxury hotels, sporting teams and one or two new restaurants that are appearing throughout the region.
Phew! A big year ahead!
What is it about Hustle&Scout that made you want to be a stallholder?
We love the concept of Hustle&Scout, and have really enjoyed the way it has been embraced (and has embraced) the Canberra community. We were especially drawn to participate in the November edition to coincide with the Movember movement.
MY FAV THINGS
Guilty Pleasure:
Using some of the more
adventurous fabrics we get through our doors to create unique garments for
ourselves.
First song on your
ultimate mixtape:
Don’t ask me why, but Telluride by Tim McGraw always gets me
singing.
Fashion item you own:
mmmmmmmmmmm, look, perhaps not a great fashion item but on my most recent trip
to NZ I was able to have commissioned a brand new set of ski boots which were
made and shaped to my feet. Had a huge kick out of getting those made up. Apart from that I have
just purchased a pair of custom made chocolate suede RM Williams boots and am
loving wearing them around.
About Canberra:
The great
view in the morning and evenings from my favourite coffee shop on the Kingston
Foreshore (those following the @braddontailors instagram account can probably
figure out where that is).
Thing you have made:
Won’t say
too much about it but a new silk / linen suit am making for myself is going to
definitely be a new favourite. Apart from that, probably a little on the boring
side, the pair of 13 oz denim jeans we’ve all been kicking around in for the
last 12 months. Wear them far too often and they are far too comfortable!
