Learn, explore, sparkle.

As a designer, no matter how long you have been designing for, it is important to always keep learning. Push yourself to acquire new skills, explore different mediums and techniques for your design process, and don't be afraid to talk to other creative people for inspiration, feedback and advice.

Nastia Zarić is a Canberra designer who continues to push herself in all her creative endeavours. Her independent jewellery label, ZARIĆ, was launched in 2013 and features colourful hand-crafted pieces made from gemstones, ceramics, leather and other fun sparkly and shiny materials. Surrounding herself with inspiring people, some of which are her closest friends, and recently experimenting with silver-smithing techniques, Nastia has shown that she is open to growth and change and this will no doubt bring her new opportunities for 2014.

A return stallholder to the Hustle&Scout market, Nastia will be showcasing her jewellery range alongside fellow designer friends Zoe, of Wnd.lnd, and Jade, of Jade Stone Handbags. These three ladies are currently on a trip to Indonesia, and, by the looks of their Instagram accounts, they have been furthering their creative education by playing with new materials and learning from the local crafts people. We can't wait to see how this experience translates into new designs...

What is it about Hustle&Scout that made you want to re-apply to be a stallholder?
Hustle&Scout was very different to other markets from the beginning. Ever since the launch of the first market, I fell in love with the energy of all the creative people involved in the event.

What do you love about working with fashion?  What keeps you creatively motivated?
Things are constantly fresh & evolving, there are only as many limitations to fashion and craft as you set for yourself - that's what I love. Recently I've learnt just how important it is to surround yourself with people who inspire you; this is one of the big things that keep me motivated and excited about what I do.

Do you feel your label is evolving? If so, why and how?
Oh absolutely, everyday. I'm still very much in the development stages of ZARIĆ - there are endless techniques, materials and styles I'd like to explore.

What are your top three fashion staples?
Stupid old t-shirts, a good quality worn-in denim jacket, and jewellery that separates you from everyone else.

What exciting personal and design-related projects do you have lined-up for 2014?
I've just started silversmithing, which is something I'm super excited about. I've worked with sterling silver and gemstones in the past, but weaving silversmithing techniques into my work is a prospect I'm really looking forward to. 2014 brings a lot of travel, Indonesia in March & Europe later this year - then travelling between states whilst in the country. A few collaborations in the works as well, but otherwise I really like to take each day as it comes. It'll be a great year.

What can punters expect to find at the upcoming autumn market?
New shapes, asymmetry, colours, sparkles. Ultimately, they'll have to come & find out! I can't wait.
