Getting to know Hanny-D Creations...

Tell us a bit about your label and what marketeers can expect to find at the winter market.
Hanny-d Creations was launched in 2009 from a burning desire to bring awareness to the need for sustainable practices in the fashion industry and how we can do more with less by upcycling, re-using, and rescuing materials that would otherwise be headed to landfill.

In May, Hanny-d appeared for  the first time at Fashfest 2014 to a very receptive audience with a collection of blocked and clashing colours. The clothing on the catwalk was created using a combination of new and upcycled fabrics whilst all the handbags were made from 100% re-purposed materials.

In 2009, 2010 and 2011 Hanny-d was involved in the Re-Loved Creations Franchise fashion events and pop-up shop. Other fashion parades include the Sustainable Careers Day at the ANU and Frugal Fashions, fashions made with upcycled materials, at Benedict House.

Market attendees can expect to see the Fashfest collection as well as new winter stock including a few coats, scarves, skirts to name just a few. There will also be a collection of handbags, totes and purses all made from re-purposed materials.

What is it about Hustle&Scout that made you want to apply to be a stallholder?
Hustle&Scout is an interesting marketplace with a wide variety of high quality artisan stallholders. This is what initially caught my interest and that I know there will be good quality merchandise all around. I feel it’s important to be around like-minded people who value quality over quantity.

Hustle&Scout offers the opportunity to introduce the Hanny-d Creations label to the general public in a very hands-on way. People will be able to touch and feel the merchandise and not just look at pictures.

MY FAV THINGS.

Guilty pleasure?
I think my guilty pleasure would have to be Cherry Ripe ice cream....for no other reason except it tastes so good!

Board game?
I love board games especially Scrabble and Monopoly. I like to make up words and see if they’re in the dictionary. Sometimes I’ve been quite surprised to find my “new word” there in print. Monopoly is a fun way to play millionaire.

Thing to cook to impress someone?
I love to make Osso Bucco. It’s a little time consuming to prepare but once it’s cooking in the oven all the hard work is worth it. Team this up with a little gnocchi, some garlic and herb bread and of course red wine, for a perfect meal that will impress everyone who tries it.

Place to unwind in Canberra?
I like to go out to Urriarra Crossing and walk along the river bank. The sounds of nature all around and flowing water is very soothing and gives me time to find myself again.

Song to dance to?
Dancing music is a very personal thing and depends entirely on the mood. For a romantic mood I would choose an old time classic like “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole. For a high energy mood you can’t beat The Black Keys...pretty much anything of theirs, but “Lonely Boy” is a good one to start with.
